Welcome Back Letter

Dear Families,

We are excited to welcome back our returning families and meet all of our new students and families on September 10th! As we get ready for the first day of school, please take a few minutes to review the information below.

Early Drop-Off

Our fee-based Early Drop-Off program begins on September 10th. Registration forms are available on our website, www.psis104.com, on the Home Page.

Please note that students may not attend the program until registration forms and payment have been submitted. All Early Drop-Off students will report to the Main Building at 9115 5th Avenue.

First Day Arrival Information


Kindergarten

  • Students should arrive at 8:30 a.m. through the Annex Main Entrance (415 89th Street) with a parent or guardian.
  • Families are welcome to stay briefly to meet their child’s teacher.
  • A welcome event and short orientation will be held in the cafeteria at 9:00 a.m.

Grade 2

  • Students should arrive at 8:30 a.m. and enter through the 5th Avenue entrance, located to the left of the Main Door.
  • Students will meet their teachers in the auditorium.

All Other Grades

  • Students should arrive at 8:10 a.m.
  • Breakfast will be available as a grab-and-go option when students enter the building.

 

Starting September 11th 

  • All students will follow the regular arrival time of 8:10 a.m.

Dismissal

  • Dismissal begins at 2:25 p.m.
  • Arrival and dismissal maps can be found on our website under the "Our School" tab.

Forms to Return on the First Day

Please complete and send the following forms to school with your child on September 10th:

  1. Emergency Contact Card
      • Include all parent/guardian names and contact information.
      • List any adults authorized to pick up your child.
      • Be sure to sign the form.
      • Please do not check the box indicating it was completed in NYCSA.
  2. Media Consent Form
  3. Arts Permission Form
  4. Housing Questionnaire
  5. Bus Forms
    • Only for families requesting Yellow Bus service (K–6) or MetroCards.

Student & Parent Handbook

Please review the Student/Parent Handbook with your child. It is available on our school website and includes important information about:

  • Attendance
  • Cell Phone Policy
  • Dress Code
  • Discipline Code

Cell Phone Policy

The NYC Public School Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy for all students in grades K–8 is attached. Please take a moment to review it with your child.

Family Income Inquiry Form

We are asking all families to complete the Family Income Inquiry Form online at www.myschoolapps.com. This form is important because it helps determine funding for our school. We ask that every family complete it.

NIA After-School Program

The fee-based NIA After-School Program for grades K–5 begins on September 10th. Students may only attend once they have completed registration.

The NIA program for grades 6–8 will tentatively begin on September 14th, awaiting DYCD confirmation.

Emergency Preparedness Information

Attached you will find the General Response Protocol (GRP) Parent Letter, which explains NYC Public Schools’ emergency preparedness procedures. Our first emergency drills will take place during the week of September 14th. Students will review all procedures with staff before participating in the drills. Throughout the school year, I will continue sending Weekly Parent Emails each Friday with important updates and reminders.
