the school year ahead another awesome moment was the pumpkin stroll which took place on October 23rd on at Cannonball Park students got to stroll with their friends and get candy October 6th was a launch of the swish swish event which is on November 7th but here's a fun part any student who raises ten dollars or more gets to join the special event all money raised goes to support the 104 PTA which helped funds fun activities since wool programs for you check out a video which explains how the event works fundraiser is a fantastic way to boost school spirit promote teamwork and raise funds the concept is simple students ask friends and family to support them as they take shots to raise money for their school there are 2 ways to support a Swish and wish event donations or pledges a donation is straightforward the full amount is donated immediately and credited to the student or class it is designated to a pledge on the other hand is based on the shooter's performance when someone pledges they agree to donate a specific amount per shot made after the event we calculate the total based on the number of successful shots and send an email to to the pleasure to honor their pledge here's how it works each student takes a total of 25 shots 5 from each wing and 15 from the free throw line all while their classmates are cheering them on the best part we host the event right in your school's gym we recommend offering incentives for the top fundraisers highest scoring classes and highest scoring individuals to encourage maximum participation throughout the school our Swiss and wish is a wonderful opportunity for students to participate cheer on their friends and raise funds for their school All In 1 exciting day let's all work together to support our school have fun and story Melissa today we're diving into the new cell phone policy that shaking up our school day will it make classrooms quieter or will cell phones still find a way to ring stay tuned as we and what's new what's allowed and what's definitely not on the menu when it comes to our favorite pocket-size tech let's get into it I'm here in the principal's office with Mrs Gordon and to access some questions about the new cell phone policy Mrs Gordon although phone policy wasn't your decision what do you think about the new cell phone policy well I think that um the cell phone policy although it is new to many schools is not necessarily new to 104 we actually had implemented the cell phone policy 2 years before it became a policy for the whole city so um in speaking to our school leadership team and looking at many of the situations that were occurring here in the school we felt that phones were becoming quite a distraction for our students so we did decide to um lock our phones for 6 to 8th graders in yondr pouches even before the new policy came into effect so I believe believe that it has made a very big difference here in our school and I think that I fully support it and I think many parents do as well what goes does the school help to reach with the new phone policy and do know how do you know if it's working well I think we plan to uh set a goal where we find that students being distracted from class students texting 1 another throughout the school day um will cause less um distractions and less incidents that occur maybe outside of school where students are saying you know continuing things from social media that might be occurring at home and bringing it into school and we'll know that that goal is working if we look at the infractions that we have where students might be texting 1 another and saying mean things or doing things that might cause a problem and last year we did see that that went down for the students that did have their phones locked up so we're hoping that that continues this year okay thank you for do you think locking up phones help students pay attention more in class I do think locking up phones help students pay more attention in class because there is no distraction and there is nothing else to look for they can stay focused on what their teacher is saying and what their classmates are collaborating with them wonderful I think it's good or bad about the new cell phone policy well I would say I don't think there's anything bad about it the thing I really like about it is that it just helps us enforce the policy we've actually already had for so long so um I am seeing you know fewer incidents with students having phones like when they would possibly say take a picture with somebody in the classroom or other issues that would would would be problematic um I think there's less problems probably in the bathrooms um just less distractions overall I think it's a good policy wonderful what do you like or dislike about the new cell phone policy so it's good but like at the same time it's kind of bad because like you don't need to have your phone in school but also it's already in your backpack so but and then also there's like emergency like a bad 1 you kind of need your phone cuz like if you need to text your parents or something cuz sometimes the teachers I mean they help but it's not really what you need and now it's time for something new we're excited to introduce a fun segment called on the spot with Lilia teacher edition and this lighthearted feature Aaliyah put our teachers on the spot with unexpected questions challenges and Rapidfire trivia it's all about laughter surprises and getting to know our teachers beyond the classroom let's use in the hot seat today hi I'm Aaliyah I'm here at
